1950s

An era of consolidation

The 1950’s marked a decade of grocery expansion with the evolution of self-service retailing and the consolidation of banner groups.

By the mid-1950s, Retail Week was beginning to gain popularity and was circulated to department stores, general stores, self-service stores, supermarkets, grocers, delis and leading retailers of groceries, food, toiletries, hardware and general consumer products.
