Kawan Foods, the “number one” roti and paratha frozen brand in Malaysia, has appointed Indian Foods Group (IFG) as its national distributor in Australia, marking a strategic move to accelerate its growth across both mainstream and Asian retail channels.
The partnership reflects Kawan’s ambition to strengthen its footprint in the Australian market by leveraging IFG’s established national distribution network, state-of-the-art facilities, and structured approach to category development.
Kawan has built a strong reputation across Southeast Asia for its high-quality roti paratha and frozen flatbread ranges. As Australian consumers increasingly seek convenient, globally inspired meal solutions, the brand sees significant potential to expand beyond niche channels into everyday household consumption.
For IFG, the appointment reinforces its growing portfolio of internationally recognised food brands and its capability to scale culturally iconic products within mainstream retail.
“Kawan is the number one roti paratha brand in Malaysia, and we’re proud they’ve chosen IFG as their national distribution partner in Australia,” said Indian Foods Group Director of Business Development Anchal Nayyar. “Our established mainstream and Asian retail networks, combined with our infrastructure and innovative marketing approach, give us the foundation to build long-term growth for the brand.”
Beyond distribution, IFG will support Kawan with integrated marketing initiatives designed to drive awareness and trial supported by leading food agency Marketing Bee. The brand’s participation in the Good Chef Bad Chef TV cooking show, supported by IFG, forms part of this strategy. The national TV exposure will position the range within accessible, everyday cooking occasions, helping to transition the product into the mainstream frozen category.
Kawan is also developing new and innovative product ranges, which IFG is preparing to introduce to the Australian market. The focus is on expanding versatility, convenience, and relevance for modern households.
“We see enormous potential for Kawan in Australia,” Ms Nayyar added. “With the right retail execution and consumer education, roti paratha can become a true household staple.”
As global flavours continue to influence Australian grocery trends, the partnership between Kawan Foods and Indian Foods Group signals a confident step toward strengthening the presence of authentic Malaysian staples within the national retail landscape.
