Leading Tasmanian supermarkets recognised

Tasmania’s annual IGA Awards of Excellence were held at the National Wine Centre in Adelaide on Wednesday (May 23) with Hill Street Grocer the big winner.

Three of the group’s sites were named Store of the Year across the SUPA IGA, Everyday, and IGA Express categories.

The IGA awards are promoted as representing the highest example of retail excellence and demonstrating stores’ ability to grow in challenging competitive environments.

IGA says the awards formally recognise the dedicated efforts of the stores and their staff in their communities and herald the winning stores as the benchmark for other IGA supermarkets across the retail network.

The awards were presented to the store teams by Tasmanian Independent Retailers (TIR) Board Chair Michael Baxter, CEO Grant Hinchcliffe, and General Manager Retail Operations & Business Development Craig Smith.

Twenty-one awards were presented, with the full list of winners below.

The awards capped off the TIR 2018 IGA Study Tour and Conference, held over three days. Attendees heard from Foodland Supermarkets CEO Con Sciacca, Drakes CEO Roger Drake, Master Grocers Australia CEO Jos de Bruin and Coopers Brewery Chair Glenn Cooper. The tour included visits to independent supermarkets described as some of South Australia’s most innovative: Drakes Foodland Wayville, Foodland Brighton, Foodland McLaren Vale and Foodland Mt Barker.
