NEWS BP AND DAVID JONES EXPAND CONVENIENCE OFFER BP and David Jones will expand their offer to deliver fresh, high-quality products and innovative convenience, which they say will shape the way Australian consumers shop for food. The expansion will include 21 new stores to be opened by the end of 2020 across both Melbourne and Sydney, taking the total to 31 dual-branded sites in Australia. These stores are said to have all been carefully designed to cater to the expectations of busy, urban customers, offering food-for-now and food-for- later options, pre-prepared meals, and groceries from David Jones Food. All partner sites will also have a select range of the David Jones Food offering available to order on Uber Eats. BP says customers will still find the “usual favourites” they expect to find at any BP store, including the high-quality range of drinks and snacks at the Wild Bean Cafe and premium fuels on the forecourt. “We know consumer needs are changing, especially during the current pandemic,” BP Australia Vice President Sales & Marketing Brooke Miller said. “Our strategy to lead the transformation of convenience retailing in Australia is resonating with our customers, who lead busy lives and want easy access to healthy and delicious food, alongside BP’s other high-quality products and fuel offers.” Seven of the partner stores are planned to open in Melbourne, at Merrifield, Clyde, Epping, Caroline Springs, Eltham, Greenvale and Kingsway. Fourteen sites are earmarked to open in the Sydney area, at Kellyville, Marsden Park, Seven Hills, Willoughby, Caringbah, Mosman, Sydenham, Penrith, Thornleigh, Asquith, Engadine, Peninsula (Central Coast), West Ryde and Ourimbah. “We’re committed to delivering the best possible experience for our customers in welcoming, convenient locations as we continue to expand this great offer,” Ms Miller said. “BP and David Jones have developed a strong working relationship and we’re thrilled to be working together as we further strengthen our partnership.” CALTEX AND UBER EATS DELIVER PHARMACEUTICALS Caltex and Uber Eats are offering Australians outside NSW the ability to order “essential” pharmaceutical items for delivery to their door. As a trial offer available in the Caltex Foodary shop on the Uber Eats app, over-the-counter pharmaceutical products, such as Panadol, Nurofen, Zyrtec, Codral and Advil, are available for delivery from Caltex stores across Australia, except in NSW, in under 30 minutes on average. Caltex Executive General Manager Convenience Retail Joanne Taylor says the new essential pharmaceutical products available from Foodary through Uber Eats represent a natural extension of Caltex’s capability to deliver more convenience to Australian consumers. “The successful launch of our delivery range in 2019 has demonstrated how we use our national retail network to serve customers in new ways, making life easier and supporting easy access to fresh food and other essentials when our customers most need it,” she said. “As we work through the last month of winter, and in the new retail normal of increased hygiene and reduced human touch points following the onset of COVID-19, we know this new essential pharmaceuticals delivery range will resonate with Australians looking to safely access the right products to help them or their loved ones feel better and get back on their feet without needing to leave home.” Uber Eats Head of Markets for Australia and New Zealand Lucas Groeneveld says this new pharmaceutical category is an example of its commitment to providing Australians with what they need, at their fingertips. “Throughout this pandemic the Uber and Uber Eats teams have committed to moving what matters,” he said. “As Australians have stayed home, we’ve helped them access quality restaurant food from local favourites, essential groceries and important convenience staples all at the click of a button. “Whether it’s parents needing Panadol late at night, providing a service for those less mobile, or making it easier for people to self-isolate without forgoing access to important health items, this new offering will make life easier for hundreds of thousands of Australians. “We’re building on our foundations to connect more Aussies with the things they need, and we’re delighted to be able to draw on the national footprint of Caltex to help us achieve this.” Customers can access the new pharmaceutical range at “hundreds” of participating locations across the country, excluding NSW. The new products extend the “comprehensive” range of food and grocery items already available via Caltex’s Foodary through Uber Eats, including healthy ready-to-eat meals, sandwiches, protein snacks, hot food, coffee, health and beauty and general grocery products. Pharmaceutics are limited to two items per order and users must be over 18 years of age to have an Uber Eats account. Items requiring a prescription will not be accessible as part of this Australian trial. 12 RETAIL WORLD AUG, 2020
