                 SUPA IGA THE FUTURE OF SUPERMARKET SHOPPING A unique range at a new SUPA IGA store in Queensland’s Redlands has attracted strong support and praise from locals and drawn customers from way beyond the area. STORE PROFILE    S UPA IGA Mount Cotton opened  its doors in December 2018,  owned by Tyrone and Leanne  Jones of Jones Retail Group, who have 25 years of involvement in grocery retailing and own other IGA supermarkets in the Redlands area south-east of Brisbane. The supermarket’s innovative range has not only won approval from the Redlands community, it has also extended its catchment area to the suburbs of Brisbane, with an “outstanding fresh food range and competitive pricing” as key reasons for making the journey. Features of the store include a walk- in fromagerie, a cafe offering indoor and alfresco dining with an all-day breakfast menu, gifting and homewares, a gourmet butchery with butchers on site, a fishmonger with daily meal solutions, handcrafted sushi freshly prepared by the team, and a health food department to “rival any” in the area. SUPA IGA Mount Cotton supports its community by sponsoring many local events and charities and by employing more than 150 team members. Their aim is to supply the community’s individual wants and needs and offer an outstanding shopping experience. The store is promoted as a destination in itself, with “great service, outstanding fresh produce and a unique range of hard-to- source delicacies” from around the world. Regarded as a flagship store and benchmark for food retailing in South- East Queensland, the store won seven of the 2020 Queensland and Northern NSW Awards of Excellence, including SUPA IGA Store of the Year, department awards for its delicatessen, meat, bakery, fresh produce and dairy, and the Team Member Rising Star Award, which went to Manager Scott Elliot for displaying “outstanding potential and dedication”. SUPA IGA Mount Cotton will represent Queensland in the National Awards of Excellence in these respective categories at the end of the year. Key highlights The store is known among locals for its extensive fromagerie and self-service cheese cabinet, with more than 300 different types of cheese on offer, as well as its cafe, Mrs Jones Kitchen, Little Sushi Co, Fresh Market Flowers and in-house chefs. SUPA IGA Mount Cotton is promoted as a “destination for everything food”, with a vast offering of more than 20,000 products. The team is described as passionate about local customers, striving to present the best quality product possible and “going over and above to deliver a first-class food shopping experience” to customers. Marketing SUPA IGA Mt Cotton, along with the other stores owned by Jones Retail Group, was one of the first to join the IGA Rewards program in Queensland. The program provides benefits to shoppers with tailored offers and discounts to reward them for shopping at IGA. The store also offers a home delivery service for residents in the Redlands and Manly areas. Shopper and market trends Promoted as a “foodie’s paradise”, the supermarket has an in-store nutritionist helping to advise customers with healthy lifestyle choices. SUPA IGA Mount Cotton is said to be continually looking to innovate and add unique and specialty offerings.
