SNACK FOOD EXPAND Roasted Pork Crackle: no-fry zone Mr Hamfrey’s recently launched Oven Roasted Pork Crackle. According to the brand, this product contains more than 70 per cent protein and is gluten free and keto friendly. Being oven roasted (rather than deep fried), says Mr Hamfrey’s, Oven Roasted Pork Crackle has less fat than most other products in the pork crackle market. The product is also said to be free of added MSG and contain no artificial colours or artificial flavours. Twists turn chickpeas into ‘tasty snack’ VGood Twists are a new range with a focus on “great taste, and a great eating experience”. Claimed to be made from more than 90 per cent chickpea protein, the Twists are marketed as the only chip alternative snack on the market with a Health Star Rating of five. According to the brand, the product provides a “low calorie, high protein, tasty snack”. “We’re getting some great momentum in the market,” VGood Company co-founder and Managing Director Sally Breden said. “We have new single-serve, portion-controlled packs launching early in 2021 suitable for lunch boxes, canteens, airlines and on-the-go snacking.” Chicken jerky for non-traditional tastes Kooee’s Chicken Jerky is claimed to be Australia’s first natural chicken jerky. The product, according to the brand, is targeted specifically towards women and non- traditional jerky consumers, who are said to be much less likely to shop the existing range or the category in general. Kooee says its products use only organic, grass-fed beef, organic chicken, and free- range pork, and are “all gluten-free and made with real ingredients, nothing more”. Chipping in with ‘all natural’ mix The Natural Chip Co has launched The Natural Mix, available in a multipack of 10 and promoted as delivering a “delicious mix of 100 per cent natural, great tasting snacks”. The product is claimed to contain no artificial colours, artificial flavours, added preservatives or MSG. Each multipack features: • Honey Soy Chicken Chips (four-packs) – said to be gluten free, with a “rich, delicious flavour”. • Sour Cream & Chives Lentil Craves (three-packs) – said to be gluten free, and “light” and “crispy”. • Farmhouse Cheddar Crackers (three-packs) – described as “crispy, crunchy and full of flavour”. The Natural Mix is currently ranged by Woolworths, Coles and independent retailers. ‘Natural protein’ on a stick Local Legends recently introduced the single-serve Big Beef Stick, said to be gluten free, made from quality Australian beef, and offering a source of natural protein. The brand says Big Beef Stick is packaged in an “easy peel” vacuum film, making it ideal for an on-the-go snack and as an addition to lunch box snacks.
