Australian seafood industry pro Easter spreads

Unprecedented times don’t mean that traditional Easter spread celebrations have to be abandoned.

This is according to Seafood Industry Australia CEO Jane Lovell.

“In fact, celebrating can help make things feel a little more normal, and what’s more normal than seafood and Easter?

“The closure of eat-in foodservice venues and the disruption of the export market has seen lots of beautiful Aussie seafood available to retail markets. There’s lobster, crabs, prawns – we have the best of everything.”

Ms Lovell says that it’s a “wonderful” time to grab some Australian prawns, or farmed Australian Barramundi.

“You can ask at the Woolworths seafood counter for frozen Barramundi fillets, or a three to five kilogram boxes of frozen prawns, which can be popped straight in your freezer and used when you need them.

“People should get in touch with their local fishmonger or the seafood counter at their supermarket as many are organising preorders with contactless over-the-phone payments, while several independent retailers are providing a free home delivery service.

“Fresh Aussie seafood has become one of the biggest highlights of Easter and there is no need to abandon this tradition while we maintain the recommended social distancing.”

Ms Lovell emphasises that purchasing Aussie seafood this Easter will support Aussie fishers who’ve been doing it rough over the past few months and provide the industry with a much needed boost.
