Mater donates 300,000 nappies to needy families

Donations of Mater Nappies to The Nappy Collective will provide 100 needy families with a full supply of the products for one year and brings the organisation’s collection in the past three years to more than one million nappies.

The Nappy Collective will redistribute all the nappies collected this year to more than 130 organisations around Australia that support mothers fleeing family violence and families struggling with homelessness, mental illness, drug abuse and extreme financial hardship.

These organisations each support hundreds of families, enabling The Nappy Collective directly to assist tens of thousands of babies across the nation.

The Nappy Collective this month held its biggest Collective so far. Spanning 39 cities and towns across the country and more than 400 workplaces, it collected hundreds of thousands of leftover, unused, disposable nappies (largely destined for landfill) for mothers in shelters and families in need.

“Mater is a mission-based, not-for-profit organisation and the donation provides us another opportunity to deliver on our mission to meet the needs of the community,” Mater Mothers’ Hospitals Director of Ambulatory and Birthing Services Kay Wilson said.
