$490m upgrade for Melbourne shopping centre

Vicinity Centres and co-owners Perron Group have revealed plans for the 50-year-old The Glen in south-east Melbourne to undergo a $490 million transformation to create a lifestyle and community destination.

The first stage of the upgrade will open later this year and the project is scheduled to be finished by 2020.

The New Glen will be expanded to about 78,000sqm of gross lettable area and will include a fresh-food market hall, two dining precincts, a ‘town square’ and the latest-format David Jones. The fresh-food market hall will be anchored by a new ALDI, the latest-format Woolworths, and a Coles supermarket.

“This development is all about delivering a boutique and well-crafted design, inspired by our discerning local community,” Perron Group CEO Ross Robertson said. “While increasing in size, our objective is to ensure The New Glen remains intimate, accessible and convenient, with a casual sophistication.”
