ALDI will open a store in north-east Adelaide to service the suburb of Golden Grove and the surrounding area.
The announcement forms part of the retailer’s commitment to develop up to 50 stores across South Australia and was described by ALDI Managing Director South Australia Viktor Jakupec as an exciting step forward.
“Feedback from South Australian shoppers has shown they’re becoming more and more curious about what we have to offer,” he said. “We’re keen to show South Australians the benefits ALDI brings, not only to their wallets, but also to their lifestyle.”
Following development approval for a store adjacent to the Golden Grove Village Shopping Centre – now occupied by AMF Bowling – ALDI is negotiating with the existing tenant to arrange vacation of the property. Construction will begin once this occurs, with the new store expected to be open next year.
ALDI’s South Australian expansion continues to progress, with sites identified at 19 locations around the state.
The first of these stores is expected to open in early 2016, with around $300 million to be invested in the state over the next few years.
Each of ALDI’s new stores will measure about 1,000sqm and employ between 15 and 20 people.
