Governments urged to support new Cost of Living Crisis initiative

With tens of thousands of Aussies plunging into extreme poverty from the cost-of-living crisis, Good360 will call on governments to join them and leading retailers and manufacturers to help divert $2.5 billion of new goods out of landfill and into the hands of people in need at the launch of the Good360 Inner Circle.

To be launched on World Environment Day, Monday, June 5, 2023, the Good360 Inner Circle initiative, which is supported by the Australian Retailers Association, will provide much needed relief from the cost-of-living pressures, while at the same time fast track the circular economy and reduce the amount of new unsold goods including whitegoods, furniture, clothing, books, toys and more going to waste.

The program requires Inner Circle partners to demonstrate a clear commitment to sustainability and social impact in the way they operate as a business and make an on-going commitment to donate goods or services, fundraising, volunteer staff and expertise and share their impact with customers, employees, and stakeholders.

According to Founder and Managing Director of Good360 Australia, Alison Covington AM, governments need to step up and support the program to achieve its full potential and, in doing so, help charity groups funding go further.

“Since establishing the Good360 concept, we have received encouraging noises from governments supporting what we do, but now is the time that they back up the verbal support with financial support,” Ms Covington said.

“It is ridiculous to think that while many millions of Aussies are struggling and going without life’s essentials, we have around $2.5 billion of new unsold products going to waste each year – products that would positively change the lives of many.”
