IGA held a Hot Cross ‘Bun Club’ on Friday (21 March) to celebrate Australia’s love for hot cross buns, and the “booming” popularity of run clubs.
Held in Sydney, the 5km event in partnership with local Cronulla run club StravaSharks, kicked off at Dunningham Park, where participants ate their first hot cross bun before setting off. They refuelled at Oak Park Beach with a second bun before finishing at Next Door Cafe, where their third and final bun was waiting for them.
Celebrating the extensive range of hot cross buns available at IGA this Easter, runners were able to sample some of what’s on offer, including Apple & Cinnamon, Traditional, and the exclusive Reese’s Hot Cross Bun. A free coffee awaited them at the finish line, and participants also had the chance to score an IGA voucher.
StravaSharks founder Jarryd Biviano says the energy at the Bun Club was incredible.
“It was amazing to see so many people come together. Community is at the core of StravaSharks, just like IGA, and partnering with them was the perfect way to combine our love of running with a well-earned treat,” he says.
IGA spokesperson Heather Howell says the Bun Club was all about bringing people together for some local fun.
“With over two million [hot cross buns] sold at IGA last year, it’s clear Aussies love them, and this was a great way to celebrate that passion with the community,” she says.
