The e-commerce giant is reported to be developing a store in the Silicon Valley, California, which will allow customers to order groceries online and schedule a pick-up at the physical location.
Rumours of Amazon’s physical store first appeared in the Silicon Valley Business Journal where it was reported that a real estate developer in Sunnyvale has submitted plans for a new 1,078sqm building and grocery pick-up area. While Amazon is not named in the planning documents, the paper’s sources say Amazon is the likely tenant.
Amazon entered the online grocery space in 2006 with the launch of www.amazon.com/grocery. Initially only offering dry groceries, the company later launched AmazonFresh, which delivers fresh produce, meat and seafood, and prepared foods.
