Dairy experts, Norco Co-operative, is bringing well over a century of expertise in making fresh, tasty dairy to the growing alternative milk market with the launch of two chilled products – Norco P2 Pea Protein and Oat mylks.
Research shows that 40% of dairy consumers are now incorporating plant-based milks into their diets, demonstrating the growing demand for alternative mylks (NielsenIQ Homescan based on a continuous panel of 10,000 households). However, traditional non-dairy alternatives such as almond and soy milks typically lack the nutritional value and taste benefits of real dairy milk.
Norco’s P2 Pea Protein Mylk is a plant-based milk alternative with the same protein, calcium and creaminess as full cream dairy milk.
“Designed to deliver the dairy benefits that other plant milks lack, it is free from gluten, soy, nuts, and lactose, whilst also delivering a nutritional punch that is hard to beat – a whopping 8.3 grams of protein and lower sugar content per serve than full cream dairy milk,” according to Norco.
Nutritionist and Food Educator Georgia Barnes gives Norco’s P2 Pea Protein Mylk five stars for its nutritional value, but said it is the taste that will create a new benchmark in the rise of alternative milks.
“Of course, we love dairy because it’s naturally packed with essential nutrients like calcium, potassium, proteins and vitamins which support healthy muscles, bones, teeth and skin. However, if you want to mix things up and you like your mylk to taste like milk even when it is dairy free, then Norco has got you covered,” Ms Barnes said.
Consumers can also say hello to Norco’s Oat Mylk which is just as creamy, delicious and milky-tasting as P2 Pea Protein, but instead uses wholesome oat grains.
“Norco’s Oat Mylk not only tastes tantalising in coffee and slurps superbly in smoothies, it’s high in calcium and low in sugar so it is also a great option for those that want to go nut, and soy free,” Ms Barnes said.
Norco General Manager Commercial and Strategy Ben Menzies says that while plant-based diets are growing in popularity and an increasing number of consumers shop for both dairy and non-dairy items, the offers in the market sadly do not benefit our hard-working Australian farmers.
“We know that over 10% of consumers avoid dairy as a result of various dietary constraints and over a third of Norco’s loyal customers also shop for alternative milks. With that in mind, our plant based mylks offer a point of difference by introducing a fresh product, packed with plant nutrition, while also supporting a 100% farmer owned Australian co-operative,” Mr Menzies said.
“We’ve been making award-winning dairy for 128 years, so we know a thing or two about how award-winning milk should taste. Because no matter how it’s made – or what it’s made from – we want to give Aussie milk-lovers the milk they deserve, even when it doesn’t contain a drop of dairy.”
Norco P2 Pea Protein and Oat Mylks (RRP of $5.50) are available in one litre bottles in the dairy fridge at select Woolworths across Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
