FINE FOOD EXPAND ‘Quintessentially English’ cheeses Somerdale International, supported by Mayers Fine Food, has launched a “specially selected” range of “quintessential” English cheeses in Australia. The Westminster range is said to be made by some of England’s finest, family-run, traditional cheesemakers. It includes Mature Cheddar, Mild Cheddar, Smoked Cheddar and Rustic Red. With its colourful pack designs, the new range is available across Australia in a 150g retail prepack format in cases of 10. Spilt Milk is the cry! With a continuing supply of milk, Woodside Cheese Wrights faced an issue when cafes and restaurants closed due to Covid-19. For Head Cheesemaker and owner Kris Lloyd, halting supply from local dairy farmers wasn’t a viable option, so she told her team there was “no point in crying over spilt milk – let’s just get on with it”. Woodside ended up creating a semi-hard goat cheese, collaborating with Sparkke at the Whitmore, an Adelaide pub that had just launched its vintage cider on tap, which would go to waste during the lockdown. Instead, Woodside used the cider as a wash for its new cheese product, appropriately named Spilt Milk. ‘Distinctively artisan’ crackers Fine Food Holdings has introduced two “distinctively artisan” ranges to its premium cracker brand, Olina’s Bakehouse. Olina’s Bakehouse Simply Seed Crackers are promoted as being like no other cracker in the grocery aisles. Each artisan variety, says the brand, offers a “thoughtfully selected” combination of “wholesome” seeds complemented by other “delicious” flavours. Variants include Moroccan Dukkah, Cracked Pepper, Rosemary, Herb & Garlic, and Natural. In contrast, Olina’s Bakehouse Lavosh Crackers offer a selection that is “delicately light and crispy” yet with “distinctive” flavour profiles. Choose from Natural, Rosemary & Sea Salt, and Pecorino & Black Pepper. Both ranges are available in Coles, Woolworths, independent retailers and specialty delis. Cracker range gets fruity Fruit & Seeded Crackers from Tucker’s Natural are available in three fruit flavours: Mixed Berry, Poppy & Pepita, Blueberry, Chia & Sunflower, and Apricot, Linseed & Sunflower. All variants are said to be vegan and a source of fibre. In addition, the product is certified non-GMO and claimed to be yeast free. Tucker’s Natural Fruit & Seeded Crackers are ranged at Woolworths and other supermarket retailers. Nut one but two additions Loacker is adding two new products – Nut Selection Hazelnut and Almond – to its Gran Pasticceria Tortina biscuit line. The Hazelnut variant is described as the “finest expression” of 100 per cent Italian hazelnuts roasted in-house at Loacker, with two meringue biscuits, hazelnut cream, and the “warm embrace” of a milk chocolate coating decorated with “crunchy” hazelnut grains. The Almond variant, according to Loacker, is a “pretty” almond-shaped biscuit that, both inside and out, “brings out the best of every little detail”, from the “sweet cream” between two “fragrant” meringue biscuits to the “scented” flakes that adorn the outside. Both products will retail in a 100g carton. 42 RETAIL WORLD SEP, 2020 your range
