WHAT’S NEW EASY-OPEN BAKED BEANS? CAN DO, SAYS DYLAN Australian “profit for purpose” start-up Able Foods, co-founded by wheelchair basketballer, wheelchair tennis player, radio host and motivational speaker Dylan Alcott in 2020, has introduced an FMCG line of Baked Beans in “easy to open” microwavable pouches. Exclusive to Coles nationally, the new offering is available in the flavours of Tomato, Chilli, Cheese, and BBQ. Able Foods says it has taken an Aussie favourite, made it more accessible, and turned it into a lightweight on-the-go snack. “The baked bean can has been difficult to open since day one,” Mr Alcott said, “so we wanted to innovate in the space, give choice to Australian’s and make this product more accessible for people with or without disability.” Able Foods’ Baked Beans are available in a 200g pack, retailing for $2.50. HEMP-INFUSED SPARKLING WATER Beyond Hemp is claimed to be Australia’s first 20mg hemp-infused sparkling water. Said to build on the success of Beyond Coconut water, founder Russell Lipton says he had been closely watching the US cannabis beverage industry take off exponentially, prompting the businessmen to tap into a market expected to exceed $5.8 billion globally by 2025. Beyond Hemp is manufactured in the US and derived from the cannabis plant, but is THC free. The initial rollout includes the two blends of Lemon-Lime and Mixed Berries. The product, in 355ml “environmentally friendly” aluminium cans, are promoted as containing zero sugars, a “powerhouse mix” of omegas and “no nasties”. The range is also said to be completely vegan and kosher, using all-natural flavours and promising to “restore, balance and hydrate”. A NEW APPROACH TO KOMBUCHA Mavella has launched a powder kombucha, with “loads of extras”. “We loved the idea of kombucha but hated the taste,” Mavella co- founder Cheryl Stewart said. “So, we thought there’d be many people out there like us, who want to drink kombucha, but for whom the vinegar taste is just too much. “Along with taste, we wanted to make sure the product is effective. With many of the ready-to-drink kombuchas, the stomach acid eats away the goodness, so the goodness is not making it down to the gut. “This is why we use in our formula a microencapsulated probiotic. This can be described as having a blanket over the probiotics, and when it enters the gut the blanket is taken off, but the probiotic is passed directly down to the gut.” The brand has also added superfoods to the product. Mavella’s new range offers the variants of Kombucha + Energy, Kombucha + Beauty, and Kombucha + Gut. TATTOO AFTERCARE FOR SKIN REGENERATION Said to be free from all colours, fragrances and preservatives, Bepanthen Tattoo Ointment is promoted as the “gentle and effective” choice for tattoo aftercare. “Enriched” with Bepanthen’s signature Pro-vitamin B5 (Dexpanthenol 50mg/g), the formula is claimed to create a waterproof and breathable protective layer that provides the moisture level needed to help the skin to regenerate from within and to stabilise the natural barrier function. The product also forms a protective layer against excessive rubbing on clothing, ensuring each person’s unique tattoo heals just as the artist intended. Bepanthen Tattoo Ointment 50g with a RRP of $7.99 is ranged at pharmacies and Coles.
