Somerdale International has unveiled a limited-edition Westminster Coronation Cheddar to commemorate King Charles’ accession to the throne.
From the end of this month, the 2kg waxed truckles of nine-month matured English cheddar will start appearing on the cheese counters of independent supermarkets, high end delis and cheesemongers.
The new Westminster Coronation Cheddar is said to be “aged to perfection giving it a creamy, slightly sweet flavour and smooth mouth feel”.
The cheese’s black wax and “vibrant celebratory” purple and gold logo, adds Somerdale International, will deliver a “real sense of theatre and standout appeal to any cheese counter or fixture”.
“King Charles’ love of cheese and the support and encouragement he has given in the past to dairy farmers is well known. As such, we felt it highly appropriate to create a cheese that not only commemorates the historic coronation of our new King but also celebrates the very best of British cheese making tradition,” says Somerdale International Managing Director Stephen Jones.
“Our great tasting and stunning looking new limited edition Coronation Cheddar follows on from our highly successful Jubilee Cheddars which have proved such a hit not only with expats and royalists but also a wider range of Australian cheese lovers looking for the authentic English Cheddar experience.
“We can’t wait to see the waxed truckles appearing on cheese counters across the country and in doing so they will complement and enhance Westminster’s position as the leading range of high quality branded British cheese in Australia.”
