The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and National Retail Association (NRA) have congratulated Queensland Premier David Crisafulli on his election victory
The two organisations welcome the opportunity to work with the new state government on issues that are critical to the success of retailers who employ one in 10 Queenslanders and contribute an “enormous amount” to the Queensland economy.
In the lead-up to the 2024 election, Mr Crisafulli announced several initiatives to support small businesses with flow on benefits for retailers. These include streamlined payments and procurements for small business, the creation of a new small business concierge service to tackle red tape and create a one-stop-shop for accessing government services, as well as additional support for innovation and regional start-ups.
ARA CEO Paul Zahra says these plans would help strengthen small businesses during a challenging economic period.
“We have long been calling for support measures for small and medium sized businesses during the current cost of living crisis, which is why we welcome these initiatives from the newly elected LNP Queensland government,” he says.
“By addressing cash-flow issues and administrative burdens, small businesses will be able to operate more efficiently.”
NRA Interim CEO Lindsay Carroll says the ARA and NRA continue to call for specific penalties in Queensland for criminals who assault retail workers, as is the case in NSW, South Australia and West Australia.
“No one should go to work fearing for their safety, but unfortunately this is the reality for many retail workers,” she says.
“We recently welcomed the Queensland government’s Respect at Work laws that will see stronger protections for people assaulted at work, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Queensland LNP on this issue.”
The ARA and NRA thank outgoing Premier Steven Miles for his contribution to Queensland business interests.
