Mondelēz International is transitioning Cadbury’s Drinking Chocolate powder packaging in Australia to all-paper.
This transformation will see Mondelēz replace the traditional metal bottom paper can with Sonoco’s EnviroCan all-paper can. The redesigned packaging is made from over 60% recycled cardboard and can be recycled in consumers’ co-mingled recycling bins.
The new packaging features a QR code directing consumers to Mondelēz’s Snacking Right digital platform, which provides the latest recycling and packaging disposal guidance and also information about the company’s commitment to mindful snacking and sustainable sourcing.
Natalie Thomas, Research and Development Director, Australia, New Zealand and Japan at Mondelēz International says the company is proud to deliver the taste Australians know and love in a sustainable pack solution.
“Our partnership with Sonoco is a critical step in advancing our packaging initiatives in Australia,” she says. “By adopting the EnviroCan, we’re taking another step towards meeting our sustainability targets and empowering consumers to participate in responsible recycling practices.
“This not only aligns with our commitment to sustainability but also meets customer and consumer expectations – because it’s simply the right thing to do.”
Sonoco ANZ Sales Manager John McEvoy says bringing the paper-end can to market was a true partnership.
“Both teams navigated design, testing, and implementation challenges with agility, providing expert support at every stage,” he says.
“The result is a solution that reduces environmental impact and aligns with the evolving needs of Australian retailers and consumers – a testament to the power of innovation and collaboration.”
