Amazon Australia announces Prime Free one-day delivery

Amazon Australia has launched its Prime Free One-Day Delivery service in Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Newcastle and Wollongong. This service is now available to Prime members in these cities, on eligible orders for no minimum spend, to order as late as midnight for next day delivery, making it even more convenient to shop on Amazon.com.au. Prime is Amazon’s membership program providing savings, convenience, and entertainment in one single membership.

More than one million products across categories including pantry staples, household and personal care, electronics, books, beauty, and more are now eligible for Prime FREE One-Day Delivery. Eligible items can be easily identified by customers shopping on the Amazon app or Amazon.com.au via the ‘Prime Free One-Day’ or ‘Prime One-Day’ icon.

Amazon Australia General Manager Matthew Benham says, “When customers shop online, they want to know they are getting a great price and that their order will be delivered to them fast, with no additional costs. Prime membership gives you that, and so much more in one membership. We are committed to growing the value of Prime in Australia so we are excited to announce the expansion of Prime Free One-Day delivery on a huge selection of products to even more cities. Prime members in most areas of Sydney and Melbourne have already been enjoying this service and we are thrilled to be able to offer Prime members in these additional locations access to the service.”

From day one of membership, Prime members in eligible postcodes in Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Newcastle and Wollongong, in addition to previously announced Sydney and Melbourne will have access to Free One-Day Delivery on more than one million eligible items; access to Amazon Original series and films on Prime Video such as Reacher S1-2, Saltburn, Daisy Jones & The Six, Citadel, and Australian Amazon Original series; The Test S1-3, Deadloch, Luxe Listings Sydney S1-3, Dance Life and the upcoming Five Blind Dates, and other popular movies and TV shows; access to 100 million songs ad-free in shuffle mode with Amazon Music and more. Customers who have not tried Prime can unlock a 30-day free trial at amazon.com.au/prime and then pay AU$9.99 per month, or $79 for an annual membership.

Amazon Australia aims to expand product selection and delivery areas eligible for Amazon’s Prime Free One-Day Delivery to provide more Australian Prime members access to even more products, faster and Prime members outside of eligible postcodes can still benefit from free delivery in as fast as two days on eligible orders. Amazon Australia now has six fulfilment centres, including a facility in Lytton, Brisbane which is the same size as two Rugby League fields and can house more than one and a half a million items from Amazon.com.au.

“We are able to offer customers fast delivery speed as a result of our continuing investment and expansion into our operations in Australia. By building fulfilment centres and delivery stations close to where our customers live and work, packages travel shorter distances, which enables us to speed up delivery,” Mr Benham said.

Since 2011, Amazon has invested more than A$15 billion across all of its businesses in Australia, including more than A$5 billion in 2022 alone, in order to keep on improving delivery experience for customers. Amazon’s delivery capacity increased by almost 50% in 2023 and Amazon added 600 permanent roles to its operations network, with even more Amazon customers around Australia now able to access an enhanced delivery experience, including faster delivery, delivery on evenings and weekends, and reattempted deliveries for customers when they are not home.

The expansion of Prime Free One-Day delivery enables selling partners to get their products to more customers fast. Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) is a fulfilment method available for sellers on Amazon.com.au, built to enable third party sellers to make the most of Amazon’s advanced logistics network. Sellers just need to send their product to one of Amazon’s fulfilment centres and Amazon then store, pick, pack and ship the seller’s order to customers. Amazon also takes care of customer service issues and handles any returns or refunds on behalf of the seller. All products enrolled into FBA are eligible for Prime delivery, meaning that selling partners with products enrolled into the program will see their products delivered to Prime members in the majority of postcodes in Brisbane, Geelong, Gosford, Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney and Wollongong the next day, with no minimum spend.
