Amazon has launched its Climate Pledge Friendly program in Australia, making it easier for customers to discover and shop for products with sustainability certifications.
Australian customers now have access to 180,000 products which have been verified by one of 38 globally recognised certifications and have one or more sustainability features, ranging from products which contain recycled and organic materials, to products which are more energy efficient or have been produced using responsible farming and agricultural practices. These eligible products are marked with a leaf icon, accompanied by a dropdown option that allows shoppers to easily explore each product’s sustainability features and corresponding third-party certification(s).
Partners include governmental agencies, non-profits and independent laboratories such as Rainforest Alliance, OEKO-TEX, or Recycled Claim Standard 100.
The program includes a range of categories, including beauty, fashion, everyday essentials, baby, home and kitchen and electronics. Brands range from global favourites DELL, Bissell, Braun, L’OREAL and Philips to local Australian sellers including STEP ONE, Modibodi and JOONYA.
“We know many customers are looking for products that have strong environmental and social credentials, which align with their personal values. Climate Pledge Friendly is a simple way for Aussies to make considered choices when shopping with us,” says Amazon Australia Country Manager Janet Menzies.
“The overseas success of the Climate Pledge Friendly program shows that an increasing number of customers are seeking more sustainable products. We’re excited to be bringing this offering to our Australian customers. It’s all part of our commitment to help customers make more informed shopping choices.”
The Climate Pledge Friendly program, part of Amazon’s global sustainability commitment, has launched in Japan, the US, Europe, Mexico, Brazil, and now Australia. It builds on existing initiatives like Amazon Resale, which gives quality pre-owned, used and open box items a second life at discounted prices, Amazon Renewed, which offers affordable refurbished products, and Amazon Trade-In, where customers can trade in old devices for an Amazon gift card via NorthLadder.
