Plate for a Mate, Australia’s first augmented reality (AR) cookbook, is set to revolutionise the way we connect through food while supporting a critical cause – mental health in rural communities.
Bringing together some of Australia’s top chefs, food lovers, and changemakers, the unique cookbook aims to drive awareness and support for rural mental health, with proceeds going to the Black Dog Institute.
The cookbook integrates cutting-edge AR technology, allowing readers to unlock exclusive video content from contributing chefs and personalities. Each recipe comes with a video message from the chef, sharing insights into the dish and the importance of staying connected through food.
“Food is more than sustenance – it’s about connection,” said Byron Keane, co-founder of Plate for a Mate.
“This book isn’t just about what’s on the plate, but who’s at the table. We want to spark meaningful conversations and remind people that they are not alone.”
The cookbook features recipes and contributions from some of Australia’s most beloved chefs and personalities, including Jimmy Barnes, Silvia Colloca, Chef Jason Roberts, Diana Chan, Sarah Todd, James Tobin, Manu Feildel and Clarissa Feildel.
Key supporters of the initiative include Humpty Doo Barramundi, D’Orsogna, Aurum Poultry, and Norco, who are helping bring this project to life.
“The Plate for a Mate campaign, in support of the Black Dog Institute, is a powerful reminder that connection and conversation can make a real difference,” said Dan Richards, CEO of Humpty Doo Barramundi.
“We’re proud to support this initiative and help shine a light on mental health in rural communities.”
Plate for a Mate is available now, with a portion of every sale supporting the Black Dog Institute and its vital mental health programs.
