Sustainable packaging has come a long way, giving brands multiple options to choose from with new, intuitive designs constantly emerging.

For inspiration in the area of sustainable packaging, I encourage readers to check out the Australasian Packaging Innovation and Design Awards and the WorldStar Packaging Awards, which both have two special award categories that sit under sustainability.
These are the Save Food Packaging Special Award and the Sustainable Packaging Design Special Award.
The entries for the WorldStar Special Awards come from more than 35 World Packaging Organisation (WPO) member countries’ regional and national award programs. This global awards program highlights the best of the best in circular and sustainable packaging design each year.
A lot more recycled content is being incorporated into packaging now, across all materials, which ensures circular design and reuse of materials as many times as possible. Another exciting area to watch is the growth in reusable and refillable packaging, with numerous stores and brands working on concepts.
Reusable and refillable packaging is one of the steps to meet global and domestic packaging directives and targets and to design out waste at the start of the design process.
