Coles’ hot’ hot cross buns for Easter

Coles is turning up the heat this Easter with new limited-edition jalapeño hot cross buns.

The jalapeño hot cross bun is the latest flavour mash-up to roll out of the Coles Bakery following the hyper-popular, savoury sensation of Vegemite hot cross buns, “which sold out quickly after arriving in stores in December,” according to Coles.

“The fiery new flavour was inspired by Coles’ Bakery Stone Baked by Laurent Mini Pane Di Casa range, whose jalapeño loaf has been a huge hit with customers.”

Using the unique flavour profile of the jalapeño, the limited-edition bun is peppered with diced jalapeño, parmesan, and tasty cheese, and finished off with an extra layer of tasty cheese on top.

White Chocolate and Raspberry hot cross buns are also now available at Coles.

“Since the humble hot cross bun arrived on shelves in December, Coles has sold more than 25 million buns, enough to feed the entire population of Australia. Early demand for hot cross buns continues with Coles reporting a 10% increase in popularity compared to the same period last year,” says Coles.

Coles General Manager of Bakery, Deli and Seafood Andy Mossop says Coles is always looking for ways to excite customers with great quality, innovative products to help make Coles the destination for Easter.

“We know how much Australians love their hot cross buns – they’re a quick and easy meal fix and are perfectly sized for snacking and school lunchboxes. We took a risk with our first-ever savoury Vegemite hot cross bun edition and customers absolutely loved them, so we knew we had to spice things up with our latest range,” he says.

“Each year we like to have a little fun when it comes to new flavour combos so we can give our customers something special they can only get at Coles. But ultimately it has to taste great too.

“Our team has spent months fine-tuning and taste-testing the new bun to ensure the right mix of sweet and savoury was achieved, and we’re confident our customers will love it just as much as they did the previous new flavours such as VEGEMITE, Lamington, and sticky date pudding hot cross buns.”

The Coles jalapeño hot cross buns are $3.50 for a 4-pack and join the classic 6pk range including Coles’ CANSTAR Blue winning traditional, chocolate, apple & cinnamon, and fruit-free hot cross buns (winner of CANSTAR Blue Most Satisfied Customers Hot Cross Buns 2021).
