Who Gives A Crap has announced a $4.65m donation, supporting their goal of giving everyone in the world access to clean water and a toilet. With this donation, the Australian brand has raised over $18 million in total, cementing its impact as a social enterprise committed to change.
Driven by its purpose-led mission, Who Gives A Crap uses half its profits to fund water, sanitation and hygiene initiatives, which in 2023 alone helped support over 845,000 people worldwide.
Working in partnership with a group of nonprofits, including WaterAid Australia, Fresh Life, and Water For People, the brand has helped support some of the world’s most vulnerable communities to get access to clean water and toilets.
CEO and co-founder Simon Griffiths says putting purpose at the heart of the business was a no-brainer for him and his co-founders Danny Alexander and Jehan Ratnatunga.
“Everyone deserves access to clean water and a toilet. Everyone. I’d like to shout out to all of our customers who have welcomed us into their bathrooms over the years, and who have helped us deliver real impact through the incredible work our impact partners do,” he said.
“Their contribution isn’t a drop in the ocean – it got us to a whooping $18m today, simply by getting consumers to buy eco-friendly essential products like toilet paper.”
“This donation is a testament to our business model, and something we hope inspires other businesses to consider. Imagine a world where even more brands donated a significant chunk of their profits to help solve huge social issues,” Mr Griffiths said.
Who Gives A Crap’s unique profit-for-purpose business model, saw the social enterprise ranked as Australia’s top corporate giver listed by percentage of profits per Forbes Australia in August 2024.
Who Gives A Crap’s latest contribution is second only to its AU$5.85 million donation in 2020, as a result of #ToiletPaperGate. A testament to the growth of Who Gives A Crap into international markets and the introduction of new products including garbage and pet bags, and limited edition collections.
