Glad Wrap and Glad Snaplock bags now able to be recycled at your local supermarket
Glad has partnered with the REDcycle Program, the nationwide soft plastic recycling initiative, which aims to make it easier than ever for Aussies to keep their soft plastics out of landfill. As part of the initiative, GladWrap is able to be recycled at the front of all Coles and Woolworths stores.
The three-year partnership also includes other Glad soft plastic products including Snaplock bags, as they are not made from PVC. Consumers and the REDCycle program coordinators alike will be able to tell the difference as PVC plastic is very stretchy, has an orange or gold tint when layered and has an odour, whilst Glad non-PVC wrap is clear and odourless.
The REDcycle initiative was developed by the Red Group, a Melbourne-based consulting and recycling organisation, who collects and reuses soft plastics unsuitable for kerbside recycling. With 2000 drop-off points at Coles and Woolworths supermarkets around the country, the program helps convert collected plastic into recycled products such as furniture, fencing and components for road infrastructure.
Since 2011, the REDcycle program has recovered, recycled and diverted 3,350 tonnes of soft plastic from landfill, with over six million pieces of plastic being returned by consumers to the REDcycle bins on average, each week.
Joy Delis, Marketing Director of Clorox ANZ said of the partnership, “As sustainability continues to be a key focus for consumers, it’s vital that brands make it a priority to provide consumers with sustainable product solutions.
Cling wrap is one of the most commonly mentioned film plastic types that consumers enquire about when it comes to recycling. We’re delighted that, through this partnership, we can support our customers in reducing their impact on the environment by providing them with the first fully-recyclable Glad Wrap on the market.”
