GS1 Australia and the Australian Made Campaign have announced a collaboration to help Food and Grocery brands in delivering new country-of-origin labelling (CoOL) to consumers and retailers.
Businesses selling food in Australian stores will begin using new food labels that show where food is grown, produced, made or packed from July 1, 2016. GS1 and the Australian Made Campaign will support the changes by establishing a database of all food products made or grown in Australia and capture brand owner CoOL data on the National Product Catalogue.
“We welcome the collaboration with GS1 Australia as it will provide brand owners and food retailers with food labelling consistency, access to country of origin information via the National Product Catalogue, and seamless integration of product country of origin information onto online shopping platforms,” Australian Made Campaign Chief Executive Ian Harrison said.
The new food labelling system will be phased in over two years and aims to help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions about the food they are buying.
