Woolworths’ New Zealand grocery chain Countdown anticipates a boost in online grocery shopping following the national rollout of its Click & Collect service last week.
New Zealanders can now buy groceries online with Countdown, have them picked and packed by a personal shopper and then collect their shopping in-store at a time that suits them. Countdown is offering customers their first Click & Collect free until June 30, after which they will be charged $5 for the service.
More than 80,000 Kiwis are regular online shoppers with the retailer. Countdown’s National Online Manager Tony Petrie says this number is expected to grow significantly, thanks to the introduction of new innovations and services in the online shopping space, such as improved online delivery times and taking Click & Collect nationwide.
“We get great feedback from our online customers, who love the ease and convenience of having their shopping done for them,” he said. “Click & Collect is yet another way to make supermarket shopping work for you.
“Customers get the benefit of our friendly team of trained personal shoppers, armed with instructions you’ve given them about just how you like your bananas or what colour toothbrushes you want for the family. Then you simply collect your order on the way home from work or school drop off. We have it ready to go when you arrive.
“It saves time, can help with budgeting and means no more stressful shopping trips with the kids in tow.”
Countdown is currently the only New Zealand supermarket retailer to offer Click & Collect at all of its stores. As part of the national rollout, Countdown is also introducing large Click & Collect lockers in some stores. The lockers are a combination of ambient and refrigerated storage spaces and will keep orders with perishable items safe and fresh until they are collected by shoppers.
