Fighting the takeaway cups in landfill battle, is Lendlease shopping centres.
Since the first Simply Cups recycling bins were rolled out across Lendlease shopping centres 12 months ago, more than half a million takeaway cups have been diverted from landfill.
Australians use more than one billion takeaway cups each year. This is estimated to be the second-largest contributor to litter waste, after plastic bottles.
Simply Cups has more than 1000 collection points and has saved over 14 million cups from landfill since it began in April 2017.
“Lendlease has long held the view that truly great places should deliver positive environmental social outcomes alongside financial value,” says Head of Retail, David McNamara.
“We’re pleased with how we’re tracking on increasing recycling and reducing waste, but we want and need to do even better. We’d like to thank our customers and stores for making such a great effort to recycle their takeaway cups.”
