New data-governance industry association

A new independent data-governance association – Data Governance Australia – has been launched to establish best-practice industry standards around the collection, use and management of data in Australia.

DGA will provide advocacy, education, support and thought leadership on all aspects of data usage and will operate alongside its sister organisations the Association for Data-Driven Marketing and Advertising, Digital Industry Association of Australia and Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia, all of which operate as separate associations, powered by a central expert team and resource base.

Former ACCC chair and current Monash Business School Professor Graeme Samuel will chair DGA, which comprises 12 founding board members from a cross-section of Australian industry, including major financial institutions, leading retailers, law firms, real-estate corporations, airlines, and specialist data suppliers including technology, software and consulting service providers.

  • Data Republic co-founder and CEO Paul McCarney.
  • IAG Director of Intellectual Property and Data Management Michelle Pinhiero.
  • Qantas Loyalty General Manager Loyalty Analytics David Rohan.
  • Allens TMT Sector Head Gavin Smith.
  • Flybuys, Loyalty and CRM Coles General Manager Adam Story.
