A free guide for Australian businesses on how to manage waste more efficiently has been released by Planet Ark.
The ‘War on Waste Tookit for Businesses’ has ten tools such as the ‘recycling no-brainer checklist’, the set of questions to ask a prospective recycler, and new brain-science-inspired signage. It also fills office managers and buyers in on recycled options for products such as paper and stationery, enabling them to help close the loop and build a circular economy.
Following an unprecedented amount of inquiries about recycling and discussions on how businesses can do their part, Planet Ark has published the toolkit along with its foundation partner, NSW Environment Protection Authority.
Planet Ark’s Recycling Programs Manager Ryan Collins says it will be an essential resource as Australia’s business waste grows.
“A 2016 report found that the average business produces 849kg of waste per person each year [Australian National Waste Report 2016, Department of the Environment and Energy & Blue Environment],” he said. “That’s where the toolkit comes in. It gives employees and business owners free advice on how to turn their waste into valuable resources.”
The toolkit encourages co-orkers to get in on the act of reducing waste by suggesting reusable alternatives to single-use items such as coffee cups, water bottles and shopping bags.
Planet Ark encourages businesses to look at services such as Cartridges 4 Planet Ark, MobileMuster and Bin Trim, which help companies recycle print cartridges and mobile phones while profiling waste and recycling habits in the workplace.
