Plastic Ban Solution Finder will help ‘thousands’ of businesses

“The most comprehensive website in Australia designed to help hospitality businesses find alternatives under state plastic ban regulations and avoid being misled” was launched by national peak non-profit organisation the Boomerang Alliance.

The Plastic Ban Solution Finder website features a wide range of packaging options assisting hospitality venues make the switch in their state; better protect the environment; and enhance their reputation. It initially covers Western Australia and South Australia.

Plastic Free Places Manager for the Boomerang Alliance Kellie Lindsay says, “As part of our national Plastic Free Places program, we have worked with thousands of hospitality businesses to eliminate over 30 million single-use plastic items.’’

“Unfortunately, many businesses have been misled into buying packaging that falsely claims to be plastic-free or compliant with bans. This is very frustrating and often expensive for businesses who are trying to do the right thing,” she said.

“We’ve developed a simple and comprehensive solution that ensures businesses can easily find the right alternatives and have confidence in their purchasing decisions and help avoid greenwash.”

The website provides simple, clear and up-to-date information. The Boomerang Alliance independently assesses every packaging product to confirm ban compliance, cross-referencing with certification bodies, checking product compositions and verifying claims.

The site also features a range of guides to reduce single-use packaging, helping businesses to save money and waste.

With funding support from the Western Australian and South Australian state governments, the website is currently available to businesses in both states, with other states planned to follow soon.
