The buying habits of Australians when it comes to frozen meals, desserts and pies has been revealed with new research from Canstar Blue showing 47% of shoppers will buy at least one type of frozen food in their regular grocery shop.
The new research, part of the 2025 Most Satisfied Customer awards for frozen foods, has also seen two supermarket brands claim the crown over brand name products: ALDI’s Orchard & Vine won for frozen fruit, and Woolworths for frozen party foods.
Growing appetite for frozen
Australia’s appetite for frozen food has increased over the past few years. Analysis of Canstar Blue research has shown in 2019, just over 20% of households were using a frozen food item once a week. Now, over a quarter of households eat frozen foods every few days.
Further research shows one in five shoppers will always buy some kind of frozen dessert in their regular grocery shop, and just under one third, 32%, say they tend to eat frozen meals because they don’t have time to cook.
The most popular frozen vegetables purchased by Australians are mixed vegetables, followed by peas and then corn. For fruits, it’s mixed berries, blueberries, mango and raspberries.
