Social enterprise, Thankyou Group announces the end of thankyou water.
Most will recognise the simple, black and white label of thankyou on a range of products from personal care to nappies, but now, no longer water.
In a blog post published on 9 August, the team at thankyou explains the reasoning for putting a stop to their water bottles.
“We’ve said it from the start, bottled water is a ‘silly product’ and that it shouldn’t exist – but while it does, we wanted to provide a better choice in the market that would help bring water to those in need. We naively always thought we’d eventually find a solution that’s a win-win for humanity and the planet. We were wrong.
“We explored alternatives with biodegradable products and carton solutions, but to be honest, all-in-all anywhere we landed felt no better than greenwashing. Every new step sounded better and more palatable, it would tick a ‘green box’. But, the deeper we looked, and the more we considered the life cycle of the alternatives, we realised it wasn’t actually any better for the environment.”
Sticking to their motto of ‘empowering humanity to choose a world without poverty’, thankyou has had to stop the operation of their water bottles, and reveal that within the next couple of months, the last loads of water bottles will be going out.
However, despite the halt on water bottle operations, the team says:
“The best is yet to come, and we believe that together we can be that great generation. To get to where we are headed, we know that sometimes we must take action and challenge (even our very own!) systems, structures, and ways of doing stuff. This is not the end, it is just the beginning, so thanks for coming on the journey with us!”
