Woolworths extends gift-card expiry

Gift cards bought nationally for use across the Woolworths group are set to have their validity period extended to three years.

The Woolworths national move comes after the NSW government announcement that it will be mandatory for retailers in the state to honour gift cards bought after March 31 next year for at least three years.

Woolworths Head of Financial Services and Insurance Chris Cramond says that  while most customers redeem their cards within three months of the purchase date, an increasing number of customers are asking for more time than one year to use them.

“We know that customers love receiving gift cards from friends and family as presents and we understand how frustrating it can be when they expire before they’ve been used,” he said.

“By extending the expiry to three years, customers will have greater flexibility to enjoy the use of their gift cards across our group stores nationally and online, and not just in NSW as per the state legislation.”

The three-year expiry date nationally on Woolworths group gift cards will come into effect for cards bought from March 31 next year.
