DoorDash is now accepting applications from non-profits organisations across Australia for its Community Credits program, which has distributed over $215,000 worth of credits to 22 groups since first launching in the country in 2021.
The Community Credits program was born out of the need to create greater access and equity for communities who struggle to access meals, essentials, and other items. Through the program, DoorDash provides gift cards to nonprofits that work to serve their communities.
Sydney-based organisations The Rev Bill Crews Foundation and Anglicare Sydney are two of the 22 non-profits that have benefitted from the program.
The Rev Bill Crews Foundation has received $17,500 worth of credits. This has been used to cover regular meal deliveries and groceries to over 139 individuals, including single parents, asylum seekers, refugees, and those escaping domestic violence – providing significant financial relief.
“Our partnership with DoorDash allows us to serve our mission and support Sydney’s homeless and disadvantaged population,” said Rev. Bill Crews, Founder/Chairman at Rev Bill Crews Foundation.
“By providing immediate food relief, our members can focus on other crucial areas of their lives, such as housing and medical care. We look forward to growing our partnership with DoorDash to reach even more individuals and families in need.”
Additionally, Anglicare Sydney has received $7,500 worth of credits to support families unable to afford food and utility bills and those at risk of eviction, benefiting over 300 people.
“These food credits from DoorDash have helped us support people who might otherwise struggle to access our service,” said Paul Fitzpatrick, Head of Food & Financial Assistance at Anglicare Sydney.
“From difficulties with transport to chronic health issues or family circumstances, there are many reasons it can be hard to find the right support. With these credits, we have been able to assist people doing it tough with the food and essentials they need.”
Organisations like OzHarvest were also recently awarded Community Credits and are looking to use them to help alleviate the increase in demand for food relief.
“Every day, we serve 450 people free food in a dignified supermarket-style setting at our Waterloo Market,” said Julia Gove, National Partnerships Executive at OzHarvest.
“We’re thrilled to receive financial support from DoorDash to help individuals from all walks of life put food on the table.”
Puji Fernando, General Manager, DoorDash Australia says having access to meals can make a difference for nonprofits that are working to address food insecurity.
“We’re proud to provide Australian nonprofits with the resources they need to cater to more of their members needing food assistance,” he said.
