ALDI Australia’s Lazzio coffee has taken the crown for Overall Large Chain Champion at the Golden Bean Australasia Awards.
Promoted as the world’s largest coffee roasting competition, the Golden Bean brings together the “best” in the coffee roasting industry and over 100 industry representatives serving as the coffee judges.
ALDI’s Lazzio range, which includes 10 coffee blends, is roasted by Melbourne’s Black Bag Roasters and is said to offer “luxury for less” (from just under 30¢ per cup). The range also scored a further 14 Golden Bean medals in various coffee categories.
ALDI first partnered with Black Bag Roasters in 2014 and has collected a “plethora” of awards, as well as a “cult-following” from customers.
ALDI Australia Buying Director Daniel Quinlan says Australia holds a reputation for having one of the world’s best coffees.
“This latest win is just another notch in our longstanding successful partnership [with Black Bag Roasters], and a reinforcement that Aussie shoppers simply cannot get enough of our coffee,” he says.
“With prices starting from just under 30¢ a cup, Lazzio offers high-quality taste at an affordable price, and is proudly roasted in Australia.”
Black Bag Roasters Director of Sales Lance Brown says the roaster is excited to once again be recognised for its range of coffee beans.
“Our decade-long partnership with ALDI has taken us to new heights and allowed us to expand our offering in-store, as well as invest further in our operations to ensure we’re bringing great-tasting coffee to more Aussies,” he says.
ALDI and Black Bag Roasters have now won the Overall Large Chain Champion at the Golden Bean Australasia Awards six times in the past 10 years and have won the Overall Large Chain Champion for two consecutive years at the World Series Golden Bean Awards.
