Australia’s first QTee pears are here

The first crop of QTee pears has arrived a little earlier than expected thanks to ideal growing conditions.

The new aromatic, red-blushed pear originates from Norway. It is a medium-sized fruit with an intense red blush and green background, offering a sweet, aromatic flavour. A healthy, low-calorie snack, QTee is also ideal for cooking, baking, and preserving – the possibilities are endless.

QTee pears are known for their delicate, juicy flesh and can be enjoyed either hard and crunchy or juicy and soft.

“The biggest barrier to purchase for consumers is not knowing how to ripen a pear, so the fact that QTee’ pears can be eaten crunchy or soft is brilliant,” said Elisa King, General Manager of Horticulture Brand Management Australia (HBMA), which has the exclusive Australian license from ABCz and Fruithandel Wouters.

The result of a natural crossing between the Williams and Broket July varieties, QTee pears were first planted in Australia in 2020. They’re currently grown in the ideal pear growing regions of Goulburn Valley, Cobram (Victoria) and Adelaide Hills (SA).

Next year, consumers can look forward to more than double the volume of QTee pears as the trees in Australia continue to mature. However, with this being their first crop, quantities are limited.
