Say it with roses this Valentine’s Day at Brisbane Flower Market

This Valentine’s Day, Brisbane Flower Markets at Rocklea is offering “the freshest, most stunning flower selection in town” as florists and wholesalers gear up for one of their busiest Valentine’s seasons yet.

Valentine’s Day is the second biggest day in a florist’s calendar, only topped by Mother’s Day, according to Brisbane Flower Market spokesperson Ann Robins.

“The day of the week that Valentine’s Day falls on plays a large part in how successful it is for florists,” she said. “Weekdays, like this year’s Friday are a boon for florists with romantics sending their loved ones flowers at work, whereas on weekends couples tend to go out on romantic dates instead.

“In a normal week, BFM wholesalers would normally sell around 20,000 stems of roses. But for Valentine’s Day they have already sold close to 150,000 stems in the week prior, with plenty more to be sold with final wholesale orders on Monday and then with retail purchases from the public on Tuesday and on Valentine’s Day.

“In terms of our retail sales, for Valentine’s Day our florists tend to purchase around three times the flowers they would on an average week.”

While red roses remain the most popular option for lovers, the Brisbane Flower Market offers a variety of alternatives for every taste and budget. “Native Australian flowers are perfect for Queensland’s hot and humid summer, or native dried arrangements can be a beautiful gift cherished long after Valentine’s Day.

“Seasonal blooms are always in stock – choose delicate pastels or vibrant brights to suit your loved one.

“To add that extra special touch to your Valentine’s gift, customers can find a range of thoughtful add-ons. You can enhance any bouquet with an elegant vase, set the perfect mood with a scented candle, add balloons or a stuffed toy.”

The Brisbane Flower Market is open to the public from 4:30am to 3pm on Mondays and Thursdays, from 5am to 3pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 6am to 1pm on Saturdays.

To meet the anticipated demand for Valentine’s Day, extended trading hours will be in place on Friday, 14 February, with the market open from 5am to 5pm (individual business hours may vary).
