ALDI has become Australia’s first supermarket to join Tony’s Open Chain, releasing a range of new, responsibly sourced chocolate bars.
Promoted as “the fairest, most responsibly sourced chocolate bar ALDI has ever launched”, the Choceur Choco Changer range is made from 100% responsibly sourced cocoa.
Tony’s Open Chain is an initiative from Tony’s Chocolonely designed to “transform” the chocolate industry. By sourcing the cocoa beans through Tony’s 5 Sourcing Principles, ALDI says it’s taking 100% responsibility for building an open and transparent supply chain.
ALDI Australia joins other ALDI countries across Europe, the UK, and the US in ranging three new delicious flavours.
Choceur Choco Changer bars also look different from your typical chocolate block. Each bar features uniquely different pieces varying in shape and size (unlike even squares found on traditional chocolate blocks). The bars’ quirky design reflects the reality of the cocoa value chain where risks and rewards are not evenly distributed.
“The launch of Choceur Choco Changer in Australia represents a significant milestone in the ALDI SOUTH Group’s commitment to making good difference for both people and the planet through responsible sourcing and responsible business practices,” says ALDI Australia’s Director of Sustainability Daniel Baker.
“We’re proud to be mission allies of Tony’s Open Chain, improving working conditions along the cocoa supply chain to ensuring each step is traceable and transparent. For everyday chocolate lovers this means you can savour a delicious treat while supporting a more ethical cocoa industry. Each purchase helps us drive structural change that creates a positive lasting impact in farming communities.”
Choceur Choco Changer range is available in the flavours of Dark Chocolate Salty Fudge Almond, Milk Salted Caramel Brownie and Milk Chocolate Honeycomb Nougat, retailing for $3.99.
