Yeperenye Shopping Centre – a popular retail precinct in Alice Springs – is seeking a new supermarket tenant as part of its recently announced $27 million redevelopment plan.

Woolworths will wrap up more than 40 years of success at the end of its current lease in February 2028, paving the way for Yeperenye to attract a new operator to the Alice Springs market.

“In the meantime, we are tremendously excited about the opportunity to completely refresh our supermarket offering as part of our $27 million redevelopment and add a new player to the Alice Springs market.

Supermarket opportunities

The new supermarket tenant will take centre stage in the proposed redevelopment, which features a four-level car park with more than 200 parking bays as well as a new loading dock and click-and-collect facilities.

The supermarket has a footprint of 4997sqm and its functionality will be further enhanced with a new loading dock and click-and-collect facilities as part of the redevelopment plan.

“The performance metrics of our centre are undeniable. We are the number one shopping centre in Alice Springs by some distance, and we know this opportunity will be extremely attractive to major operators,” said Mr Cole.

“We now have the ability to consider some of the leading retailers in Australia and we’ll use our expertise to match that to the needs of the community. Bringing another quality supermarket to the market will increase diversity, choice and competitiveness and that can only be for the betterment of Alice Springs.”  

Yeperenye expects to confirm the new supermarket operator within the next year. Construction of the redevelopment is anticipated to be completed in Q3 2027. Woolworths will relocate to Alice Plaza at the end of its lease in February 2028.
