Australia’s first gin crafted from Tasmanian barley

TasGin_ProdshotTasmania Distillery, maker of Sullivans Cove Single Malt Whisky, has released Hobart No.4 Gin.

Created from the same Tasmanian barley and water used to make the ‘World’s Best Single Malt’ (World Whiskies Awards, 2015), Hobart No.4 Gin is now available nationwide.

The distillery’s worldwide reputation for producing excellent malt spirit led to the decision to create malt-based gin.

“The most common base spirits in Australia’s recent craft-gin boom are wheat and cane sugar, but malted barley’s reputation for flavour and complexity is unrivalled,” Tasmania Distillery Marketing Manager Bert Cason said. “We make some of the world’s best malt spirit right here in the distillery and it’s weight and flavours are perfect for gin.”

Based on a traditional dry-gin recipe including juniper, cassia bark, coriander, orange and nutmeg, Hobart No.4 Gin is enriched with the native Australian botanicals lemon myrtle, anise myrtle, wattleseed and Tasmanian pepper berry.

“This is a versatile, rewarding gin well suited to martinis and sipping straight, while providing an excellent backbone for a traditional G&T,” Mr Carson said.
