Coles opens 800th store

Coles has opened its doors at Epping North in Melbourne, reaching its milestone 800th Australian supermarket on June 21.

The store is said to be creating 115 new jobs in the area and 25 current Coles employees will transfer to the new store, bringing the total staffing number to 140.

“The whole team can’t wait to show off the new shopping experience to the local community,” Store Manager Ranjith Fernando said. “Our service will extend beyond the checkout, with the store committed to supporting a range of causes close to the hearts of customers and team members.”

The new Epping store is said to be set up as a market-style supermarket, complete with in-store bakery with flatbread baked daily, a continental delicatessen with a large selection of cheese and fresh seafood, and a meat counter with a slice-on-request service.

The store’s community involvement will include supporting the Epping North Scout Group through events and activities and by donating a trailer. Children at Epping’s Harvest Home Primary School will also receive their sport shirts from the new store, which is within the Aurora Village centre in Harvest Home Road.

“As a store, we’re committed to being involved with the local community, and working with Epping North Scout Group and Harvest Home Primary School are just two ways we’re getting involved,” Mr Fernando said. “We look forward to being more involved with the Epping North community throughout the year.”

The new Coles store will open from 6am to 12 midnight seven days a week.
