Coles pledges up to $1m to flood-affected communities

Coles will be pledging up to $1 million to a fundraising appeal for flood-affected communities in New South Wales and Queensland.

Donations will be given to not-for-profit organisation GIVIT, to provide emergency and household items to local residents.

Coles customers will also have the chance to help communities by making a donation at any Coles supermarket, Coles liquor store or Coles Express store from today (24 March).

Fundraising will be kicked off with Coles providing a cash donation of $100,000 and will also match customer donations dollar-for-dollar, of up to $900,000.

What does GIVIT do?

GIVIT is currently working with the NSW and Qld Governments to respond to multiple severe storms, which have widespread destruction and devastation across the two states.

Funds donated will help GIVIT to provide emergency and household items, including groceries, toiletries, nappies, hygiene products, clothes, bedding, generators and work equipment.

“Our local store teams have already donated food and water to support the SES and emergency services working on the front-line but the need is enormous and we are committed to doing more,” Coles Group CEO, Steven Cain says.

“Together with our customers, our Coles teams have shown from the recent experiences of last year’s bush fires and the Covid-19 pandemic, that we can quickly respond to and bounce back from unexpected disasters.”

GIVIT Founder, Juliette Wright OAM welcomes the fundraising appeal.

“This is an incredibly generous contribution from Coles and we thank them for this donation as we assist with the ongoing distribution of essential items to impacted communities,” she says.

“Our aim is to make sure people devastated by disaster get exactly what they need to recover, where and when they need it.”
