Drakes Supermarkets and Vili’s Family Bakery are helping South Australia’s oldest children’s charity Can:Do 4Kids celebrate 145 years.
Vili’s Family Bakery is custom-making celebratory ‘Cookies 4Kids’. These are cookies in the shape of Can:Do 4Kids’ mascot, Penny Piggles. The bakery will then distribute them to all Drakes Supermarkets in SA during the month of February.
The goal is to raise awareness and much-needed funds to support blind and deaf children in the state.
Can:Do 4Kids – since 1874
William Townsend established Can:Do 4Kids, Townsend House, in 1874 as a school and accommodation for deaf and blind children. It has now provided family-centred support for 145 years.
It describes itself as SA’s “oldest charitable service provider, offering vital therapy and support to children and young people who are blind, deaf, have low vision, are hard of hearing, or have sensory needs”.
Chief Executive of the Can:Do Group Heidi Limareff said: “We see ourselves as very much a community organisation. This is why, when we wanted to make this concept a reality, we teamed up with Drakes Supermarkets and Vili’s Family Bakery.”
Chief Executive of Drakes Supermarkets Roger Drake said: “So many children, young people and families across SA have benefited, and will continue to benefit from, Can:Do 4Kids’ tremendous work.
“We’re proud to support Cookies 4Kids by stocking Can:Do 4Kids piggy cookies in all Drakes Supermarkets in the state.”
Finally, Vili’s Family Bakery founder Vilmos ‘Vili’ Milisits added: “My team and I love a challenge. We had a few ideas before we landed at Cookies 4Kids. The craziest was custom-made pig-shaped cookies. I said, this is crazy, we have to do it.”
Dates for your diary
The collaboration aims to make 15,000 cookies during the promotional period and thereby raise $20,000 for Can:Do 4Kids’ support services. The cookies are officially available from Wednesday February 6.
Drakes Supermarkets’ flagship store in Wayville, Adelaide, will host a launch on Tuesday February 5 at 1pm.
Can:Do 4Kids’ mascot Penny Piggles will be there to give out the limited-edition treats.
