Event: Gluten-free expo returns to Brisbane

The Gluten Free Food Expo will be back at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre for its 11th year on May 14-15.

The two-day event is promoted as an annual celebration of 60 of Australia’s best gluten-free food producers, with cooking demonstrations from participants in TV’s MasterChef series and keynote presentations from medical professionals who specialise in the management of coeliac disease.

With research indicating that one in 70 Australians are living with coeliac disease and thousands more are gluten intolerant or choose a gluten-free lifestyle, Coeliac Queensland Executive Officer Glen Harriss says he is focused on a weekend where those attending the expo can sample and buy the latest gluten-free foods on the market as well as enjoy an informative and fun weekend.

“We really upped the ante with our stallholders last year and got a great result, so we’re working hard to make 2016 our biggest year ever,” he said. “Also, by moving to a Saturday and Sunday [from Friday and Saturday], we hope this gives gluten-free foodies and families more time to enjoy the expo.”

A key highlight for the event will be the live cooking demonstrations by MasterChef contestants Courtney Rolsten and Michael Weldon, appearing on the Coles stage.

The Gluten Free Food Expo, presented annually by Coeliac Queensland (CQ) will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Merivale Street, South Brisbane. Tickets are available online (CQ members $10, non-members $15) or from the centre (CQ members $15, non-members $20).
