Finish has launched the latest iteration in its mission to help #FinishWaterWaste.
In its second year of partnership with OzHarvest, and in conjunction with Woolworths, Finish has committed $200,000 to support the rescue of 200,000kg of food waste, which is said to equate to 69,000,000 litres of water.
“Food production is the largest user of water in the Australian manufacturing sector, taking up 28% of the market,” says Finish.
“However, data shows that Australian households are wasting 2.5 million tonnes of food, despite 70% of this being perfectly edible [FIAL, ‘National Food Waste Strategy Feasibility Study: Can we halve Australia’s food waste by 2030’, 2021].
“This is concerning, but what Aussies are also failing to realise is that our water waste footprint may also increase with every item of food we throw away. For example, throwing away one burger wastes the same amount of water as a 90-minute shower!”
Australians can purchase any pack of Finish Ultimate Plus between 31 May and 4 July at Woolworths to support the cause and help rescue 1kg of food from going to waste, which Finish says saves over 300 litres of water. For every purchase of Finish Ultimate Plus, customers can also go into the draw to win a share of 23 million Everyday Reward Points.

“Water security is an ongoing issue for this country, with extreme weather events plaguing regional farmers. We urge all Australians to do their part in being more water conscious, whether that’s supporting OzHarvest, eating leftovers in the fridge, or skipping pre-rinse of dishes. At the end of the day, every little bit counts.”
