FoodWorks celebrates store excellence

foodworks-board-award-for-leadership-innovation-joe-khouriOutstanding FoodWorks retailers were honoured at the FoodWorks Conference 2016 held at Jomtien Beach in Thailand last month.

The FoodWorks National Large Store of the Year award went to Agnes Water FoodWorks in Queensland for its performance across a number of levels, including its interactive layout and engagement with customers and community, with special mention made of the range of organic produce available.

FoodWorks Yackandandah in Victoria won the FoodWorks National Medium Store of the Year award for its customer service and involvement with the local community. Special mention was made of the store’s community rewards program as well as the quality of the deli and fresh food ranges.

The FoodWorks National Small Store of the Year award went to FoodWorks East Corrimal in Wollongong, NSW for its merchandising, presentation standards and customer service. Special mention was made of the ‘grab-and-go’ section in the store, which was seen as providing a strong point of difference in the area.

Special recognition awards were also presented at the event. The Penny Chambers Young Employee Award went to Jessica Murphy from Burpengary in Queensland, recognising her contribution to fundraising and volunteering.

The Board Award for Most Outstanding Leadership and Innovation Award was presented to Joe Khouri from Marrickville in Sydney, recognising his willingness to implement innovative ideas and his deep understanding of industry trends.

Speaking at the conference, AUR CEO Rick Wight said the business’ priorities were focused on the simple elements of generating sales growth, enhancing margins and ensuring sustainable business growth into the future.

“We’re confident that the structures we’re putting into place now will support independent retailers well into the future,” he said.

Guest speakers addressing the conference included business commentator Peter Switzer, motivational speaker Peter Thurin, international supermarket industry expert Paul Foley and leading business strategist Michael Bettridge.
