Montague Farms has announced the arrival of its “highly anticipated” Kissabel apple harvest.
The Kissabel brand is the result of over two decades of research and development in France’s Loire Valley. It features apples drawn from a range of different crosses all with the one goal to generate a “uniquely flavoured” apple with red flesh.
Last year, the harvest was limited and was trialled through selected restaurants, speciality bakeries and outlets. This season, the harvest is expected to yield nearly 36,000 kilograms of apples and will be available at select independent greengrocers
Currently, in Australia, there are 5850 test trees across 1.6 hectares of land, grown in orchards such as the Adelaide Hills of South Australia and the rolling hills of the Yarra Valley in Victoria.
In 2025, Montague Farms will offer two new Kissabel varieties, one with a naturally sweeter profile, and another offering a juicier texture with a “well-balanced” sweet-tart flavour. This harvest begins with Kissabel Summer, distinguished by its pink-orange skin. Following is Kissabel Berry, which features a “deep” crimson skin and “rich” red interior.
They are promoted as being the apple for foodies, home cooks, and adventurous snackers alike.
This month, Montague Farms has also announced that Jazz apples and Ambrosia apples are now back in season.
