Following over 12 months of construction, Marketplace Gungahlin will be opening its new retail precinct above the Kmart mall on 17 August, 2023.
The $60 million expansion, titled ‘Level Up,’ brings an array of new retailers to Marketplace, including ALDI Supermarket, the largest Chemist Warehouse in Canberra, a 1000sqm Daily Market Asian supermarket, a 700sqm Desi Bazaar Indian supermarket and a range of speciality retailers including Espresso Room, Chatkazz Authentic Indian Cuisine, Bed Bath N’ Table, Miniso, Sushi Hub and more.
It will add an extra 6500sqm of shopping as well as a pedestrian Skywalk Bridge providing all weather protection over Hibberson Street, connecting Marketplace’s North and South Malls.
“We’re taking Marketplace Gungahlin to the next level and enhancing our range of stores to cater to the rapid growth in the area. Our aim is to provide added convenience and an improved shopping experience for the community,” says Marketplace Gungahlin Centre Manager Jeremy Wilson.
The expansion of Marketplace coincides with the Centre’s 25th anniversary of service to the Gungahlin community.
“For 25 years we have been a pillar in the local community, providing more than just a shopping destination. Marketplace is a space for neighbours to connect, families to bond, and memories to flourish,” Mr Wilson said.
“As we embark on a new era with Level Up, we’re more dedicated than ever to serving as your trusted community hub.”
Once Level Up opens, Marketplace will offer two supermarkets (Woolworths and ALDI), two discount department stores (Kmart and Big W), two “mini majors” (Chemist Warehouse and Daily Market Asian Supermarket), over 120 retail, dining, and services stores, two children’s indoor playgrounds, a new parents room and over 1300 car park spaces.
In line with the ACTs commitment to sustainability, the Centre has also invested heavily in renewable energy, significantly increasing its previous output, and now able to generate “up to 1000 kilowatts of power daily.”
Marketplace will be celebrating the opening of Level Up with a grand opening ceremony on 17 August, alongside a weekend of exciting activations, performances, and exclusive deals.
